SYE is the result of lucky encounter(s) and, above all, a common vision of watchmaking and object design in general.
Although I would have loved to create a watch brand, I never thought I'd actually do it one day.
I love watches, passionately, irredeemably, to the point where my personal collection vastly exceeded 100 pieces.
It all started about 20 years ago when, while visiting a flea market, I found myself at a sudden standstill in front of Andre Le Marquand’s creation: the Spaceman watch.
This wristwatch changed my life.
It pushed me to discover the world of innovative watch creation and crawl the web looking for new timepieces.
This watch led to me making a blog, MontresDesign, where I posted things casually, now and then, as a side project around my regular life.
The blog afforded me amazing opportunities to get in touch with young, talented, creative designers.
The journey had already begun, but I didn’t want to create a brand just for the sake of it. I deeply wanted to bring something new, to invent, to offer a new vision.
All of this could have been a fantasy or a pipe dream had it not been for THE crucial encounter.
When Forrest Gump says “Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get”, I do trust him.
17 years on, I found myself face to face with the designer duo I had briefly collaborated with on a previous job, having no idea they were very active in the watch industry. We got to talking, obviously about watches, but also our wishes and frustrations… and it all snowballed from there.
